A Prayer for Schools Under Threat

Spirit of Love,

Spirit of Justice,

Spirit who shows up in classrooms and hallways,

who sits beside frightened children

and stands behind trembling teachers—

be here now.

We pray for the students

who are afraid to walk into school

for fear they won’t make it home again.

For the children rehearsing escape routes

and the ones who’ve learned to keep quiet,

keep small, disappear.

May they be wrapped in safety,

may courage find them anyway.

We pray for the parents,

who still pack lunchboxes with love

even when they’re not sure

if their family will still be together by dinner.

Spirit, steady their breath,

send helpers to their doorsteps,

give them sleep that restores.

We pray for the teachers and administrators—

called to nurture minds and spirits,

not to collude in state-sponsored trauma.

May they resist complicity.

May they protect.

May they remember the sacredness of each child.

We pray for the local police,

those who took an oath to protect the people—all the people.

May they remember their calling

is not to serve fear, but to serve life.

We even pray for the ICE officers.

Spirit, break open their hearts.

Show them another way.

We pray for doors to open—new work,

good work, liberating work.

We pray they set down the tools of harm

and choose mercy instead.

And for this country—

so drenched in fear,

so tangled in lies of scarcity—

may we remember we were made for more than this.

May we find our way back

to abundance and imagination,

to welcome and kinship,

to freedom that holds everyone.

May the truth set us free.

All of us.

Amen.

And may it be so.
