Frequently Asked Questions
How is Spiritual Direction different than therapy?
Someone created a wonderful chart that compares spiritual direction, pastoral care, pastoral counseling, and therapy. I like to think of it like this -- therapy helps us find a healthy emotional and mental balance. Spiritual direction helps us (re)connect to the holy and transcendent. In spiritual direction I help people discern their purpose, core values, and life alignment around those. Sometimes people come to me for help finding spiritual practices that resonate with their beliefs and nature.
What should I expect?
The first session is getting to know one another. I'll ask questions about your spiritual life journey and your goals for our time together. Usually we start sessions with the lighting of a candle and some silence. I will bring a poem, scripture or reflection based on previous sessions. And then we see where the Spirit takes us.
How do we get started?
Let's set up a free, information session in which we can ask each other questions and see if we click. You may email me to set up a time.
If you would like to start seeing me, I'll have you fill out the following forms, and we'll get our sessions on the calendar:
